The modern Indonesian Air Force (IAF) is a mix of modern and Cold War-era types originating from all over the world. In recent decades, the country has increased its focus on local, licensed production of important types covering rotorcraft and fixed-wing transport models. Modernization is underway for a select few (though key) systems to keep the service at-the-ready for current and emerging regional threats.
NOTES: The IAF maintains 42 French Dassault Rafale multirole fighters on order and an additional 12 M2000 fighter-bombers. Six more South Korean KAI T-50 light attack platforms are also expected. A pair of French MRTT aerial tanks are on order, these built on the A400M airfrmae.

The modern Indonesian Army armored corps is spearheaded by the powerful Cold War-era German Leopard 2 Main Battle Tank (MBT) with over 100 on hand. Beyond this the force is a highly mobile component of Indonesian fighting strength, built around both wheeled and tracked solutions. There are some Cold War-era holdovers whose best days are clearly behind them but a concerted effort has been made to modernize the force to include solutions such as MRAPs, fast-attack vehicles, and ranged self-propelled vehicles.

The modern Indoensian Navy is a modest fighting force covering most all of the required categories to effectively defend at the local level or wage a long-term campaign. The service is headlined by a small collection of mattack submarines of both German and South Korean origin. The surface fleet encompasses several notable frigate designs backed by a large force of fast-moving, agile corvette types. Beyond this is a fleet of patrol, amphibious assault, and support vessels charged with various seaborne duties.
NOTES: Three additional Nagapasa-class (South Korean-originated) attack submarines are on order. The General Purpose Frigate is also under construction and will encompass two new, all-modern hulls. These are recognized locally as Fregat Merah Putih and are related to the upcoming British Type 31 frigate design.
